When you join the studio, you will also need to purchase a belt and dohbok, which is the uniform worn by practitioners of Tang Soo Do.
Throughout your journey as a martial artist, you will need new dohboks as you grow, both in height and in skill.
The prices range based on size and quality. To give you an idea of dohbok costs, in 2023, the cost of a beginner dohbok (full uniform) was: $45. The cost of an adult-sized advanced dohbok (just the jacket), which is of much higher quality, was $55.
You will also be charged a testing fee as you advance through the belt levels. Think of this fee as the fee you would pay to compete in a swim meet or attend a seminar. These fees cover costs such as the instructor’s time and new belts.
· Beginner’s testing fee: $40 (white to purple stripe, one-hour test)
· Intermediate fee: $65 (orange to brown, ninety-minute test)
· Advanced fee: $85 (green to Cho Dan Bo, two-hour test)
Testing fees for Black Belts and beyond are significantly more expensive. My fourth-degree Black Belt, which included an entire weekend of testing, cost $3,000.
All that said, we never want to turn students away due to financial restraints. If I could afford it and if my family would let me, I would teach Tang Soo Do for free at a park. If your budget does not allow for these prices, please ask about our financial aid programs.

Classes happen immediately after the school's regular classes. Beginner students are eligible for advancement at the end of two sessions. Any parents who facilitate a connection with their school will be granted a discount for their student's training.
Our team comes to your pre-school and teaches your young one movement and karate basics. Classes loosely follow regular protocols. The students will be eligible for promotion at the end of two sessions, but they will not be able to advance beyond the rank of White with Yellow Stripe until they move up in age. Any parents who facilitate a connection with their school will be granted a discount for their student's training.
